このたび米国ハワイ州・マウイ島にて発生をした山火事において、犠牲になられた多くの方々に謹んで哀悼の意を表し、被災された皆様に心からお見舞いを申し上げます。本学では兼ねてから協議を積み重ね、2023年8月8日にハワイ州マノア校との包括連携にともなう覚書の締結式を執り行うに至りました。ハワイ大学マノア校の新たなパートナー大学と致しましても米国史上において過去100年で最も甚大な被害を受けた被災地の現状に深い悲しみを覚え、ハワイ州の歴史溢れる被災地における一日も早い復興を祈念いたします。

Message of Sympathy from President Murayama to those Affected by the Wildfires in Maui,
Hawaii, U.S.A.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the many victims of the wildfires that
occurred on the island of Maui in Hawaii, USA, and offer our heartfelt sympathy to
all those affected by the disaster. After continuous discussion, the University of
Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) and Fukuoka Institute of Technology (FIT) signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a comprehensive partnership on August
8th, 2023. As a new partner university of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, we are deeply
saddened by the magnitude of the devastation, the most extensive in the past 100 years of
U.S. history, and we continue to pray each and every day of the way for the swift healing,
recovery, and rebuilding of the beautiful State of Hawaii and of its rich culture and history.
